Forty-one media outlets have met the eligibility criteria to receive financial assistance from the state budget this year, as provided by the government to private media organizations.
In a press statement released last night, the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) announced that a total of 57 media outlets had created "profiles" to submit their applications for the government's financial aid. Among these, 41 media outlets were deemed eligible.
The Media Commission further stated that the media outlets that have qualified for financial assistance can now view their status through the designated portal.
These eligible media outlets are slated to receive 0.1 percent of the state budget, which amounts to MVR 27.9 million.
Previously, the Ministry of Youth was responsible for disbursing funds to media organizations. However, following numerous complaints regarding the selection process and the allocated amounts, this responsibility has now been transferred to the Media Commission.
