Single Parent Allowance Increased to MVR 3,000 per Child

The Government has increased the allowance for single parents to MVR 3,000 per child, following an amendment to the regulations on financial assistance. The change fulfils a pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Previously, single parents received MVR 1,000 per child, to a maximum of MVR 10,000. Under the new rules, each child up to four children will receive MVR 3,000 per month. For families with more than four children, each additional child will receive MVR 1,000 per month, with the total allowance capped at MVR 15,000.

This means each single parent can now receive up to MVR 180,000 per year in financial assistance.
