Rescue services provide assist after cargo vessel crashed on reef

The MNDF Male’ Area Coast Guard has started providing assistance to a cargo vessel after it crashed on to a reef.

MNDF said that the 90-foot vessel, “White Star” traveling from Addu City to Male’ City was reported to have been taking in water after the crash and a the Male’ Area Coast Guard Squadron is currently providing assistance.

The incident was reported to the Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center around 4:21 a.m. this morning and the Coast Guard vessel, “Dhoshimeyna” was dispatched with a team of divers to provide assistance to the vessel.

MNDF said that the vessel started taking in water after the collision with the reef and the efforts of the crew, the vessel has now been brought to the harbor of Vaavu Atoll Aarah and the divers are inspecting the damages.

The vessel was traveling with one local and four expatriates at the time of the incident and no one was injured.
