The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has instructed the government to appoint information officers at all state-owned companies to ensure compliance with the Right to Information Act.
In a circular issued today, the PCB said that special information officers must be appointed in line with the requirements set by each company’s board. The PCB stressed the importance of using standard email addresses for the designated officers, so that the Information Commissioner can respond to requests for information smoothly, even during periods of change.
The board also reminded authorities that it is a legal obligation for state institutions and state-owned companies to follow the instructions issued by the PCB. The circular comes amid ongoing difficulties in obtaining information, despite legal requirements for public institutions to provide information under the Right to Information Act.
