The police have announced that the northbound lane of the Sinamalé Bridge will be closed tonight from 11:45 PM until the completion of ongoing maintenance work.

In a post today, the police further stated that the lane would remain closed until the maintenance is complete, and traffic flow adjustments have been planned accordingly.

Maintenance of the Sinamalé Bridge is currently managed by China's CCCC company, the original contractor responsible for its construction.

The Sinamalé Bridge was first opened for public use on August 30, 2018, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Approximately $200 million was spent on the Sinamalé Bridge project. Of this, $116 million was provided as grant aid from China. China also provided a loan of $72 million, while the Maldivian government contributed $12 million to the project.
