A person found with illicit drugs in their luggage upon arrival in the Maldives has been arrested and remanded for two days.

The individual arrested in connection with this case is Fasim Sahaf Odakkunnathu (22), an Indian national. The police are alleging that he used, possessed, and trafficked illicit drugs.

The police arrested him and presented him to court yesterday. In court, he stated that the trolley containing the luggage was not his. Fasim Sahaf further claimed that the investigating authority had not asserted that the police opened the luggage with a key found in his possession.

Fasim Sahaf also noted that the police were unable to specify the type of visa he used to enter the Maldives.

The investigating authority reported that Fasim Sahaf had not undergone a urine test and that this was his first visit to the Maldives.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Criminal Court decided to remand Fasim Sahaf for two days.
