A STELCO employee who sustained burns in an incident while working to resolve an issue with a switchgear at the Hulhumalé Powerhouse B has passed away today.

Ahmed Azmeel, 43, who worked as a supervisor at STELCO, died while receiving treatment at Bangkok Hospital. STELCO has confirmed this information.

Following the incident, which occurred on the 27th of last month, the STELCO employee received treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital, and subsequently at ADK Hospital.

He was transferred to Bangkok Hospital in Thailand for further treatment on the first day of this month.

In a press statement issued that day, STELCO said that the company was closely monitoring the employee's condition. The company also stated that it was providing all possible assistance to his family in connection with the injured employee.

"The company is currently working to determine the cause of this incident and to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. Furthermore, as the Maldives Police Service has also commenced an independent investigation into this incident, the company is providing its full cooperation to them," STELCO stated.
