President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government's aim is to further modernize fisheries and create more opportunities within the sector.

In a post on X marking Fishermen's Day, the President remarked that fishing has been intertwined with Maldivian life since the archipelago was first inhabited. He also noted that from those early days to the present, seafood has remained the primary food source for Maldivians.

"Fisheries represent the most proud and distinctly Maldivian profession, deeply connected to the diligence, skill, customs, and culture of our people. A key objective for the government is to further expand the fisheries industry, enhance productivity, and increase the income for fishing families," the President stated.

The President further emphasized that the goal is to maximize the economic benefits of fisheries for the nation and to further modernize fishing practices while creating more opportunities for fishermen.

The President extended his felicitations on Fishermen's Day to all individuals and families involved in this vital sector.
