Vehicles weighing more than 2 tonnes can now be registered to residential areas in Hulhumalé. This includes residential plots, flats, and row houses.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced a change to Article 5(a) of its policy on transportation and vehicle use in Hulhumalé, Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu. According to the old rules, vehicles heavier than 2 tonnes, such as trucks and lorries, could not be brought into these residential areas.

HDC said that under the updated policy, registration permits will be given if there is enough space for such vehicles. This means that people living in residential areas can now apply to register heavy vehicles like lorries.

The corporation has published the new policy on its official website.

Previously, heavy vehicles were only registered in Malé City. With this change, more vehicle owners will have access to registration in Hulhumalé.
