MTCC has announced that 97 percent of the first segment of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project in Malé City has been completed. The widening work on the north side of the road began on 21 August and includes asphalt paving, which is expected to be finished today, with road signs and markings to follow this week.
The project, awarded to MTCC for MVR 144.5 million, will expand the road to four lanes, construct 830 metres of asphalt from the Hulhumalé ferry terminal to the local market, install a new drainage system, and add signage and road markings. MTCC said the upgrades will ease traffic, improve pedestrian safety, and reduce flooding during heavy rains.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously noted that a significant portion of a USD 130 million grant from China will support road development in Malé, including this project.
