A case has been submitted to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee seeking to halt the living allowances paid to employees of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICOM). The request also included taking back allowances paid over the past 1 year 10 months.
The issue, raised by a private party, was reviewed during the committee’s Wednesday meeting.
Kelaa PNC MP Abdulla Shareef argued that it is unfair to recover the allowance from staff when there is no evidence of employee negligence. He urged the commission to review its internal procedures and consult the Ministry of Finance and Planning before taking action. Funadhoo MP Mohamed Mamdhooh seconded the motion.
The committee approved the proposal during the session.
