The Criminal Court has ordered the remand of Sunny Umar, head of The Travel Guys Private Limited and operator of the Halal Tourism brand, for 30 days on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the request for detention was made under Articles 30 and 33 of the Child Sexual Abuse Act and Article 49 of the Constitution. While the court initially ordered a one-day remand, the PGO confirmed that his detention will be extended as the investigation continues. The office also stated its intention to seek a detention order that remains in place until the conclusion of the trial.

Police said Sunny Umar was summoned to the Family and Child Protection Department for questioning on Monday and was later arrested that night at Velana International Airport while attempting to travel abroad. The arrest was made under a court order in connection with allegations of sexually abusing a minor.
