Dr. Aishath Rameela, the former Minister of Agriculture, was today appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

Dr. Rameela resigned from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet on December 1, 2024, citing health reasons.

During a ceremony held today at the President's Office, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented Rameela with the official document of her appointment as a member of the HRCM.

Rameela then took the oath of office as a member of the HRCM and signed the oath affirmation.

The Majlis approved Rameela's appointment to the vacant HRCM seat on October 29.

An individual is appointed as a member of the HRCM when a seat becomes vacant, as was the case with the term of HRCM member Maryam Muna, which concluded last Sunday.

Rameela has previously served as State Minister at the Ministry of Health on two occasions. She also earned her PhD in Social Sciences from Malaysia in 2010.
