The government has temporarily suspended vehicle registration services for expatriates as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion in the Greater Malé Region.

Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen said the measure was taken as a precaution while the ministry works on amendments to the Land Transport Act and related regulations. He noted that the suspension will remain in place until new solutions are introduced.

The decision comes as the government has submitted the Land Transport Act to Parliament. The bill, presented by Kurendhoo MP Mohamed Shamin, includes provisions outlining procedures for issuing driving licences to expatriates.
