The Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of Ahmed Mahloof as the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan. His nomination was submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and forwarded to the committee for review.

Mahloof attended a committee meeting on Wednesday, where his appointment was presented by North Kulhudhuffushi MP Mohamed Dawood and supported by South Fuvahmulah MP Ibrahim Hussain. All nine committee members present endorsed the appointment unanimously.

Mahloof previously served as the MP for South Galolhu and later as Minister of Youth and Sports under the MDP government. He first entered politics through the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration and later served in the 18th Parliament as an MDP member. He joined the ruling People’s National Congress in March.
