Employees of the Ministry of Tourism and Agriculture have donated MVR 100,000 in financial aid to the "Dhivehin with Ceylon" telethon. This telethon is being jointly conducted by the state media, Public Service Media (PSM), and some Maldivian media outlets as a form of assistance to Sri Lanka.

Due to the adverse weather affecting neighboring Sri Lanka in connection with Cyclone "Ditwa," the country has suffered extensive damages, many lives have been lost, and countless others are in distress. In an effort to provide assistance, PSM took the initiative to launch the "Dhivehin with Ceylon" telethon. The Ministry of Tourism and Agriculture has contributed MVR 100,000 to this fund, which has so far collected over MVR 5.7 million and more than USD 41,641.

The telethon began yesterday morning at 9:00. Although it was initially planned to run until 1:00 AM on Sunday night, it has now been extended until 2:00 PM this afternoon to provide the opportunity for as many parties as possible to contribute.

PSM stated that fund collection boxes have been placed in various areas of Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villingili to assist in raising money for the telethon. Arrangements have also been made to allow donations via QR code scanning for ease of access.

Additionally, BML Rufiyaa and Dollar accounts have been opened. PSM noted that a dedicated account has been set up to deposit the funds received by the telethon, and the process is being managed by Crowe Maldives under the supervision of an independent audit firm, ensuring transparency and maintaining public trust.

Neighboring Sri Lanka, where a large number of Maldivian families currently reside, is a common travel destination for Maldivians. It is a frequent destination for many Maldivians for medical treatment, holidays, and official trips.
