In response to the current heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka, the Maldivian government has decided to donate USD 50,000 in financial aid and 25,000 cases of canned fish to the country.

The Foreign Ministry stated in a press release today that this decision by the government is aimed at assisting Sri Lanka in recovering from the damages and difficulties faced by its citizens due to the heavy rainfall across various parts of the country caused by Cyclone "Ditwa".

This assistance symbolizes the close friendly relationship between the two countries and signifies that the Maldivian people stand with the people of Sri Lanka during such a difficult time. The Foreign Ministry's statement also expressed hope that this aid would bring some relief to the affected Sri Lankan citizens and somewhat ease the efforts of the Sri Lankan government. It further noted that such acts demonstrate the close friendly relationship shared between the two countries and their peoples.

So far, 69 people have died and 34 people have gone missing in Sri Lanka due to the flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwa.
