President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 15 mosques across the Maldives will be completed and opened before the upcoming month of Ramadan.

In a post on X, the President said the government is prioritising the completion of mosque projects and highlighted recent progress, including the opening of an Islamic Centre, a mosque, and a branch of the National Centre for the Holy Quran. He expressed disappointment over delays in some projects but affirmed that efforts are now being accelerated.

The President said the upcoming openings will include a mosque in Malé City and another in Hulhumalé Phase II. To address the shortage of permanent mosques in Hulhumalé Phase II, construction of additional mosques is scheduled to begin in December.

He noted that expanding mosques and Islamic centres across the country is part of the government’s wider goal to strengthen Islamic unity and ensure access to adequate prayer facilities for all communities.
