The Maldives has welcomed its two millionth tourist of the year.

The visitor, Bethany Sarah from the United Kingdom, arrived at Velana International Airport on a Virgin Atlantic flight from London. She is visiting the Maldives on her honeymoon with her husband, who is experiencing the country for the first time.

A special ceremony was held at the airport to greet Sarah, with Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim in attendance. The couple will be spending their holiday at Outrigger Maldives Maafusivaru Resort.

The government aims to attract 2.3 million visitors by the end of the year. Statistics from the Tourism Ministry show that the Maldives receives an average of 6,000 tourist arrivals daily, highlighting the steady growth of the sector.
