A bill has been submitted to the Parliament to amend the law concerning the security and allowances provided to individuals who have served as President, with the aim of extending allowances from the state budget to those who have served as Vice Presidents.
This bill, which is scheduled to be proposed to the Parliament by Hulhudhoo constituency member Mohamed Shahid on behalf of the government, includes a provision to provide a monthly allowance of MVR 25,000 to former Vice Presidents from the state budget.
The currently enforced law makes no mention of security or allowances for former Vice Presidents.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions requiring arrangements for former Vice Presidents to receive healthcare services both within and outside the Maldives.
The bill also stipulates that, similar to former Presidents, if a former Vice President completes another presidential term or serves in another state position, the allowances specified in the law will be suspended for that period.
