Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has decided to recommend the suspension of several senior police officers, including Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.
‘One’ has come to know that the decision was reached at a closed-door meeting held on Wednesday. The Committee reached the decision after allegations of corruption linked to Polco, the police welfare company currently under investigation.
The officers recommended for suspension include Commissioner Naveen, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Dawood, and a number of other Assistant Commissioners. Further details of the officers involved have not yet been released.
Last month, the Public Accounts Committee raised corruption allegations against ACP Dawood. Committee Chair and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim, stated that a significant sum of money had been deposited into the accounts of Dawood and his wife without any declared source of income.
The investigation into Polco remains ongoing.
