The decision on who will fulfill the responsibilities of MDP Chairperson has been left to the party's National Council.

Fayyaz Ismail, who was serving as MDP Chairperson, resigned from the post on Friday night.

In a press statement released by MDP last night, it was stated that discussions have been held among the party's leadership regarding how to proceed with the party's administration and other essential matters following Fayyaz's resignation.

The meeting advised that instead of the leadership making specific decisions, the two aforementioned issues should first be discussed by the National Executive Committee, and then the committee's decision should be presented to the National Council, the MDP stated.

"Accordingly, a meeting of the National Executive Committee was held this afternoon at the party's secretariat to decide on the two aforementioned issues. In this meeting, the National Executive Committee decided to temporarily assign the responsibilities of the Chairperson's position to a party determined by the National Council until a new Chairperson is elected, and to propose holding a National Council meeting very soon to determine the date for the Chairperson's election," MDP stated last night.
