Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged against travel when yellow and orange weather alerts are in effect.

The MNDF stated that Maldives Meteorology has forecast bad weather for the coming days. MET has also predicted strong winds and rough seas across the entire Maldives.

Therefore, MNDF has appealed to the public to avoid all but essential sea travel.

"We also appeal not to travel when MET has issued a yellow or orange alert," the MNDF stated.

MNDF further urged diving and water sports service providers to pay special attention to the weather conditions.

The MNDF also advised checking that life jackets and communication systems on board vessels are in good working order.

The MNDF additionally appealed against overloading vessels with cargo. It also urged ensuring that items such as bilge pumps are functioning properly
