First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised the valuable role mothers play in shaping their children's interests and future careers through the work they carry out at home. She made the remarks while attending the certificate awarding ceremony for the Beginners’ Electrician Course for Women, organised by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).

The course, designed specifically for women, aims to equip participants with the basic skills needed to independently address domestic electrical issues. Speaking at the event, the First Lady noted that women carry significant responsibilities in both professional and domestic settings, and that providing them with technical knowledge can bring meaningful benefits to households and the wider community.

She added that although the programme is an introductory one, the tasks performed at home often inspire children, and initiatives such as this help build a more capable and confident society. The First Lady also highlighted the importance of acquiring basic knowledge in any service field, noting that participants had learned safe and effective ways to use electricity and conserve energy at home.

A total of 116 women completed the course across seven batches, and certificates were awarded to 81 participants at the ceremony. The First Lady personally handed certificates to 30 of the graduates.

The event was attended by STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and other senior officials.
