President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that from next year, Aasandha Insurance will fully cover all mental health treatment costs.

Speaking at an event marking the administration’s 104th week, he noted that mental health services are not currently covered, but this will change from 1 January.

He added that the health sector saw the highest number of new recruits this year, with even more planned in next year’s budget. By next year, laboratories will be set up on islands that do not yet have them, and all health centres will be upgraded.

The President said CT scan services will be available on islands within six months, and MRI services will be introduced in all tertiary hospitals within the same period.

He also stated that the number of patients needing to travel abroad for treatment will be significantly reduced by the end of next year.
