Permission to deliver Friday sermons has been granted to 36 qualified councilors.
The Islamic Ministry opened 50 opportunities for councilors to apply for a Khatib (sermon delivery) course in June this year.
Interviews for course participants were held on July 8 and 9. The eligibility requirements for the course included being a councilor and being male. The selection criteria emphasized proficiency in reciting the Holy Quran and fluency in both Dhivehi and Arabic languages.
Among the councilors who participated in the program, 36 individuals were granted permission to deliver Friday sermons and perform funeral rites according to established guidelines. The permissions were awarded during a ceremony held at the Islamic Center Hall last night.
