President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives will maintain close relations with all countries except Israel.

Speaking at an event held by PNC at Artificial Beach tonight, the President said that the policy of maintaining close relations with countries that seek friendship and cooperation with the Maldives has been implemented consistently until now.

"Whether they are neighboring countries or distant nations, small countries or large countries, the Maldives will maintain close relations with all countries except Israel. As long as they continue to inflict suffering on the Palestinian people, there is no welcome for Israelis in the Maldives," he stated.

The President explained that the ban on Israeli passports was implemented because it was what the Maldivian people wanted, adding that the Maldives will not welcome those who brutally kill Palestinian people. He emphasized that Israel is not welcome to enjoy the Maldives' beautiful beaches and waters.

"I faced significant pressure when moving to ban the passports. I was told tourism would be damaged and other consequences would follow. I believed that would not be the case. This is a democracy, and in a democracy, things should happen according to the people's wishes," he said.
