The project to expand the terminal at Maafaru International Airport has been awarded to Chinese company Hunan No. 6 Engineering.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at Island Aviation Services (IAS) headquarters, which manages Maafaru Airport. IAS Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas signed on behalf of the company, while Legal Representative Wang Hee signed on behalf of Hunan No. 6 Engineering.

Valued at USD 3.6 million, the project involves the construction of a two-storey terminal building that will include a CIP lounge, a passenger lounge, and office space.

According to IAS, the contractor has been given ten months to complete the expansion project.
