The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has directed relevant authorities to recover more than MVR 1 billion lost to the state since its establishment.
During a meeting of the Parliament’s Budget Committee on the 2026 state budget, the ACC stated that while the commission is responsible for identifying funds lost through corruption and misconduct, it does not hold the legal authority to recover the money directly through the courts. Instead, the commission issues instructions to the respective authorities to reclaim the identified amounts.
The ACC highlighted significant progress in its efforts, with over MVR 80 million recovered in 2024 alone and additional amounts currently under recovery. Several cases have already been submitted to the courts, while others are being prepared for legal proceedings.
The commission reaffirmed its continued commitment to strengthening anti-corruption measures and ensuring that state funds lost through unlawful means are recovered.
