Land reclamation work for Hulhumalé Phase 3 has officially resumed after being halted for several years. The project, managed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), was previously suspended following the withdrawal of Sri Lanka’s Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCC), which had been contracted for the reclamation works.

The resumption ceremony was held at Hulhumalé Phase 3 this evening and attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, along with senior officials from the government, HDC, and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

HDC stated that the project was paused for a comprehensive reassessment and revision of the master plan. The corporation confirmed that 18 hectares of land have already been reclaimed, with further reclamation to proceed in line with the new land use plan. The project is being carried out by the government and will be handed over to MACL upon completion.

According to HDC, the newly reclaimed land will be leased to address the ongoing housing challenges faced by residents of the Greater Malé Region. The corporation also urged the public to exercise caution when travelling near the site, as work is ongoing around the clock.
