Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem has been elected as chair and Ali Fazad as deputy chair of the Parliamentary Committee tasked with reviewing the proposed state budget for 2026.

Finance Minister Moosa Zameer presented the MVR 64.2 billion budget to Parliament on 30 October. The proposal has since been forwarded to the Budget Review Committee — a joint body comprising members of the Public Accounts Committee and the Economic Affairs Committee — for detailed evaluation.

During the committee’s first meeting, members approved the working and voting quorum at 12 members each and set 19 November as the deadline to complete the review.

The committee will now examine the government’s spending plans and revenue projections before submitting its report to Parliament for debate and approval.
