The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has settled the payment of USD 32,426 to Beehive Hotels Pvt Ltd, following a Civil Court ruling issued in October 2023.

The case stemmed from a cheque issued at the request of FAM, which was returned due to insufficient funds in an account opened at the Bank of Ceylon. Beehive Hotels subsequently filed a lawsuit to recover the amount. While FAM acknowledged the debt, it did not agree to the additional two percent compensation requested by Beehive.

During the court proceedings, FAM explained that the delay in payment was caused by financial challenges and the delay in receiving funds from international organisations. The association requested to repay the amount in instalments over a one-year period, a request that Beehive did not oppose.

The Civil Court, on 31 October 2023, ordered FAM to pay the USD 32,426 within one year. FAM has since fulfilled the payment as required under the ruling.

Following the completion of the payment, Beehive Hotels filed a motion to withdraw the case, confirming that the issue had been resolved in accordance with the court’s decision. The Civil Court later confirmed that the payment had been made in compliance with its earlier order, closing the case.

The settlement brings an end to the financial dispute between FAM and Beehive Hotels, which had arisen from payment delays linked to the association’s financial difficulties.
