An expatriate who was seriously injured following the MPL landing craft capsizing has passed away.

The Maldives Police Service identified the deceased as 32-year-old Masood Hassan.

According to the police, the incident took place near the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area in Malé City and was reported around 3:44 p.m. Six people were injured in the incident, including two foreigners and four locals, and were treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Police confirmed that there were 14 people on board at the time of the incident, all of whom have been accounted for.

Authorities, including the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), remain active in the area as investigations continue. Further details will be announced once available.
