President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will present a special Shield of Honour to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Commemorative Shields of Honour to the families of the martyrs of 3 November.

According to the President’s Office, the shields will be presented at the official Victory Day function to be held tomorrow morning at the Social Centre. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

The honours are being presented in recognition of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s leadership during the 3 November 1988 attack and the national service rendered in defending the state.

A total of eight soldiers and eleven civilians were martyred in the 1988 attack.

President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to address the nation at tomorrow’s official Victory Day function, while Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon will also deliver remarks.
