Two new judges have been appointed to the Criminal Court — Ahmed Shafiu, HA. Ihavandhoo, and Muzammil Nasir, GA. Kanduhulhudhoo.
The oath of office was administered by High Court Judge Mohamed Shaneez Abdulla at a special ceremony held at the Supreme Court last night.
Judge Ahmed Shafiu previously served at the Prosecutor General’s Office for four years, including as Assistant Prosecutor General. Before joining the judiciary, he worked at a law firm from 2013 and practised as a lawyer from 2015 until his appointment. He is also a member of the Bar Council.
Judge Muzammil Nasir has 11 years of experience as a lawyer and was serving as a Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office before his appointment to the Criminal Court.
