The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year has increased by 9.9 percent.
According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 1,804,515 tourists have visited the Maldives as of the 27th of this month. During the same period last year, 1,641,937 tourists visited the Maldives. This represents a 9.9% increase.
Top five countries with the most tourist arrivals to the Maldives:
- China: 291,573 tourists
- Russia: 223,857 tourists
- United Kingdom: 159,615 tourists
- Germany: 132,394 tourists
- Italy: 119,261 tourists
Statistics show that 73.8 percent of tourists who visited the Maldives so far this year stayed at resorts. Hotels and guesthouses received 24 percent of tourists, while safari vessels received 2.1 percent. Other accommodations received 0.1 percent of tourists.
The government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. Currently, an average of about 6,000 tourists visit the Maldives daily, and an additional 500,000 tourists are needed to reach the target.
