Dr. Aishath Rameela, who previously served as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, has been approved by the People's Majlis today for appointment as a member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).

Dr. Rameela resigned from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet on December 1, 2024, due to health issues.

President Muizzu nominated Rameela to the HRCM to replace Commission member Mariyam Muna, whose term expired on November 30.

After the matter was forwarded to the Human Rights and Gender Committee of the People's Majlis for review, the committee examined the case and sent its report to the floor of the parliament, requesting approval for Rameela's appointment to the HRCM.

In today's session, the appointment was approved unanimously by all 63 members who who voted, out of the 65 members present.
