State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has opened a new powerhouse constructed in K. Dhiffushi.

The new Dhiffushi powerhouse was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his current visit to K. Atoll islands, as he visited Dhiffushi today.

At the ceremony, President Dr. Muizzu was accompanied by STELCO's Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and senior officials of the company.

The construction of the new Dhiffushi powerhouse began on June 26, 2024. The work was completed on April 30, 2025.

The project was awarded to Sunvil Private Limited for MVR 12,535,490.33 million.

"The new powerhouse includes an engine room and a control room, as well as an office area and an accommodation block," STELCO said.

The capacity of the former Dhiffushi powerhouse was 2.2 megawatts (2,200 kilowatts). The installable capacity of the new powerhouse is now 7 megawatts (7,000 kilowatts).
