Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the practical work of land reclamation and coastal protection in Lh. Naifaru.

As part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's trip to Lh. Atoll islands, the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdullah Muthalib, officially launched the practical work of land reclamation and coastal protection in Naifaru at a special ceremony held on the island today.

The ceremony was attended by MTCC's Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudi, Naifaru Council members, and senior officials from government agencies.

MTCC said that the work planned under this project includes reclaiming 44.80 hectares of land, installing revetments in an area of 1813 meters, installing groins in an area of 474 meters, and constructing a breakwater in an area of 803 meters.

The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 679.03 million, to be completed and handed over within 630 days.

Naifaru, with a population of 6000 people, faces significant housing shortages. MTCC stated that upon completion of this land reclamation project, this issue will be resolved, providing opportunities for residents to obtain land plots. The company also believes that this will lead to economic and social advancements for the island.
