President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a project to develop 100 housing units in Lhaviyani Hinnavaru will be included in next year’s national budget. He made the announcement while meeting residents during his visit to Faadhippolhu Atoll.

The President said that Hinnavaru, one of the most densely populated islands, faces serious housing challenges. He assured that alongside the new housing project, the government will also complete utility systems needed to populate the reclaimed area. The agreement for the previous stalled housing project has been terminated due to a lack of progress, and the work will be reassigned to a new contractor.

President Muizzu also said that the Bank of Maldives branch under construction in Hinnavaru will be completed and opened by March next year. Similar branches being developed across other islands are expected to open within the next five months.

During the visit, the President inaugurated and launched several projects, including the Hinnavaru Police Station, Council Secretariat, and the Fitness and Recreation Centre, as well as the new Fenaka Corporation building.

Agreements were also signed for major projects such as a Maldives National University (MNU) campus and accommodation, a water and sewerage system on the reclaimed land, and the construction of a new Lh. Atoll Education Centre building.

The President highlighted that additional machinery for the Road Development Corporation (RDC) will arrive within two months, enabling faster road construction on multiple islands.

He said that harbour development will continue by strengthening the outer seawall and improving vessel mooring facilities. Waste management on the island will also be handed over to the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) within three months.

Next year’s budget will also include plans to develop a swimming track and a sports complex in Hinnavaru.

President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating development in Hinnavaru and transforming it into a model of rapid progress.
