The People's Majlis has approved the appointment of Mohamed Farushath as the President of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission.

Farushath was approved for the position with 49 votes from the 60 members present at today's session. Nine members of the MDP voted against his appointment.

Farushath is one of the members appointed to the commission by the People's Majlis.

The Independent Institutions Committee of the Majlis had also recommended to the floor to approve Farushath's appointment to this position.

According to the newly enacted Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission Act, the commission consists of seven members.

This includes three members appointed by the People's Majlis and four elected members: two representing broadcasters and two representing other media.

The three members appointed by the Majlis are:

Safa Shafeeg, Billoorivila, Dh. Meedhoo

Aminath Sarahath Izzath, G. Gofi

The elected members of the commission are:

Abdul Azeez Ibrahim, Moonimaa / Sh. Feydhoo

Zammath Ahmed Waheed, Mala / GDh. Thinadhoo

Simaha Naseem, Velige / GDh. Rathafandhoo

Hussain Sageef, Hisaan / HDh. Vh. Vaikaradhoo
