Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially inaugurated its new Fire Extinguishers Refilling Centre.

A special ceremony was held this afternoon at the MPL Health and Safety Building to mark the opening of the facility. The event was attended by MPL’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Rishwan, along with other senior members of the company’s management team.

According to MPL, the new centre will provide a range of services including refilling fire extinguishers, conducting hydrostatic pressure testing of bottles, and performing leakage inspections. The facility is equipped to handle refilling services for fire extinguishers using Dry Chemical Powder (DCP), Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), foam, and water.

In addition to refilling, the centre will offer comprehensive servicing, including painting, labelling, e-tagging, installation of safety pins, and the safe disposal of expired or damaged extinguishers. MPL also stated that the centre will provide refilling and pressure testing services for air cylinders used in Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) systems.

MPL emphasised that all operations at the new centre will be carried out in line with international safety standards to ensure the highest level of harbour safety and fire protection.
