The Maldives has strongly condemned the legislation passed by the Israeli parliament to establish sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, describing it as an act aimed at undermining the prospects of peace in the region.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new legislation seeks to assert political control over the West Bank and legitimise the presence of Israeli settlers living there in violation of international law.

The Maldives described the move as a serious breach of international law, calling it a “dangerous and extremist act” that threatens efforts to restore peace and stability in the Middle East.

Reaffirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Maldives urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its violations in the occupied Palestinian territories. The government also called for greater global action to protect the rights of Palestinians and to stop Israel’s unlawful activities.

The Maldives reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through the recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and the restoration of Palestinian territories to their pre-1967 borders.
