President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that within the next five months, the government will begin ferry operations under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service across all atolls of the Maldives.
During a meeting held with the people of Laamu Atoll, the President said that discussions were held regarding challenges faced in delivering ferry services in some islands due to unfinished infrastructure. He stated that the government is currently completing the necessary facilities to launch ferry terminals and enable full operations across the remaining islands.
He further said that Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with finalizing preparations to expand ferry routes and ensure operational readiness in every atoll.
Currently, RTL ferry services are operated by MTCC. The RTL system connects islands within and between zones through organized routes designed under a nationwide integrated transport master plan, ensuring reliable, affordable, and inclusive travel for citizens.
