The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has stated that the weather is expected to start improving from Sunday, and that heavy rain with thunderstorms and winds up to 45 miles per hour in squalls are forecast for all parts of the Maldives during the upcoming weekend.

Meteorologist Mohamed Shahud told "One" today that all parts of the Maldives will experience rainy weather tomorrow and during the weekend, with strong winds and rough seas across the country.

"Heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected, with strong winds and rough seas. Wind speeds are generally between 15 and 25 miles per hour, reaching up to 45 miles per hour in squalls. Seas are rough in all areas. The weather is expected to start improving from around Saturday. On Saturday, wind speeds will be around 13 to 23 miles per hour. However, rainfall is expected to decrease from then on," Shahud said.

The Met Office stated that the central and northern atolls are experiencing the heaviest rainfall, which is expected to continue until early morning morning. There's also a possibility of heavy rain in the Male' area tonight, with some risk of flooding, according to Shahud.

Shahud also mentioned that the weather is expected to improve from Sunday of next week.
