President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Kunahandhoo Island in Laamu Atoll is the first time a sitting president to visit the island in 40 years. The visit took place as part of his ongoing tour of inhabited islands in the atoll.
Upon arrival, President Dr Muizzu was warmly welcomed by the Kunahandhoo Island Council and residents. During the visit, he met with community members to discuss development priorities and ongoing projects aimed at improving local infrastructure and services.
Several key projects were highlighted during the visit, including the ongoing water and sewerage system implemented by the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and the beach protection project awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
In addition, new projects were launched for the construction of a volleyball court and a fitness and recreation centre—both awarded to MTCC—and for road development, awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
