Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions has approved three nominees for appointment to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMC), including former Broadcasting Commission President Safa Shafeeq.
A total of ten candidates had applied for the vacant seats, though two withdrew their names before the interview process began. The committee then interviewed the remaining applicants and evaluated them based on education, experience, and performance during the interview.
Following the assessment, the committee awarded marks to the candidates, with three receiving more than 75 percent: Mohamed Farusath, Safa Shafeeq, and Aminath Sarahath Izzath.
The Parliament is scheduled to vote on their appointment today.
The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission is composed of seven members — three appointed by the People’s Majlis, two representing broadcasters, and two representing other media. Members representing the media have already been elected.
