Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Usham has stated that the agreement with Malaysia's Bestinet company to proceed with the ESET system will not cause any losses to the Maldivian state.

Usham made this statement while answering a question from Ibrahim Nazil, MP for Hithadhoo South constituency, about whether there would be any losses to the Maldivian state and its citizens due to this agreement.

The AG said that the government first signed an agreement with Bestinet in 2016.

However, he noted that during the previous MDP government, when the agreement was neither implemented nor terminated, Bestinet had indicated that they would take the matter to court.

Usham added that due to the way the previous government handled the situation, it was noted that Bestinet had the opportunity to claim compensation for losses incurred under the agreement.

However, the AG stated that the agreement with Bestinet would provide the company with "some exclusivity." He did not provide details about this exclusivity.

This statement from the AG provides insight into the ongoing situation with the Bestinet agreement and its potential implications for the Maldivian state.
