Ooredoo Fintech has partnered with PayPal to introduce PayPal services in the Maldives, marking a major step forward in the country’s digital transformation.

The Ministry of Economic Development announced that the partnership represents a key milestone in advancing the Maldivian economy through digital innovation. The launch aims to strengthen the nation’s digital wallet services and provide more convenient financial transaction options for individuals and businesses.

According to the ministry, the introduction of PayPal will create new opportunities for Maldivian businesses, freelancers, and content creators to engage in the global digital economy. The initiative also addresses long-standing challenges faced by Maldivians in accessing international financial and technical services.

The ministry noted that extensive efforts over the past two years with PayPal and other partners have led to this achievement, which supports the government’s broader goal of developing a robust and inclusive digital economy.

The government expressed gratitude to PayPal, Ooredoo Fintech, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), and other stakeholders for their collaboration in making the service available.

Introducing PayPal to the Maldives fulfils one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s key pledges to expand access to global digital financial platforms.
