It has been decided to transfer the operations of the current terminal (old terminal) at Hanimaadhoo International Airport to the new terminal starting tomorrow.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates the airport, stated today that as part of the preparations for the official opening of the new terminal at Hanimaadhoo International Airport next month, operations from the current terminal will be moved to the ground floor of the new terminal from tomorrow.

This change is being made because, according to Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) standards, all types of Code C aircraft can only land on the new runway using the entire runway length. Therefore, the old terminal and adjacent buildings and tall structures need to be removed to obtain clearance for the runway, MACL said.

MACL said that all related information was shared with thed with the Hanimaadhoo Council and other relevant ministries on the 9th of this month.

As MACL is making final preparations for opening the new terminal at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, they have begun the ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) process. This includes preparing terminal services and procedures, testing equipment and machinery, training human resources who will be the main operators, and ensuring that the entire terminal meets national and international standards before and after opening.
